Note
Mary had worked in Jute mills in Dundee from age 11 and was really self educated, she read a lot latterly. When her son John's wife died in 1930, she took his four children from London, England to Newport, Scotland to raise with the help of her daughter Alice. She was 70 years old and had already brought up 10 children of her own.
