Note: This marriage did not last long, and by 1870, Edward had married again. No records are found of a divorce from Jane, and in the 1871 census, Jane is stated as being a widow. When Edward remarried in 1870, he also stated he was widowed. It is assumed that Edward remarried bigamously. There was no trace of Jane in the 1881 census, so it is thought that Jane could have also remarried.

Note
Edward Hazlewood started out as a brewer then moved on to traveler and brewer salesman (1861), and then as a grocer in 1871. His store was located on the High Street in Tooting, Surrey. He was one of the first grocers in London to install a coffeeroaster in his store. The operation of the roaster made the store very hot. One day he stepped outside to cool off and developed a chill. This later developed into pneumonia from which he subsequently died. His son, John Edward, was in Australia at the time of Edward's death. John Edward was called home to settle the estate and never returned to Australia.
